A wish can teach a sick child that anything is possible, even the future. Every day, children who are fighting for their lives make that life-altering decision about what is their one true wish. And Make-A-Wish is always there to turn their innocent dreams into unforgettable realities. In Hawaii, between 40 and 50 wishes are granted each year. At any given time, there are between 15 and 20 wishes pending. The most popular wish is for a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida; 75% of the wish children ask to "meet Mickey Mouse." Other popular wishes include computers, shopping sprees, celebrity meetings and trips to visit relatives in other sites around the world. Wishes Granted
On April 29, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the wish that inspired the creation of the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, to a boy named Chris, who wished to be a police officer the Make-A-Wish Foundation will celebrate World Wish DaySM Since then, more than 240,000 kids like him around the globe have experienced the life-affirming impact of a wish.
Wish children in 36 countries around the globe will have their wishes come true on April 29, including the wish of 13 year-old Makanalani from Kea‘au. Makana has wished to go to Walt Disney World® Resort. Accompanying her on the wish will be her parents, Fred and Cheryl and her four sisters. Makana’s wish will be sponsored by Jewelers For Children and Disney.
More than 100 Make-A-Wish Foundation chapters in the United States, including Make-A-Wish, Hawaii, along with Make-A-Wish Foundation International’s affiliates on five continents, are granting or publicly dedicating at least one wish on World Wish Day to highlight the Make-A-Wish® mission: to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
Become a Make-A-Wish Volunteer! Volunteers share the power of a wish® by graciously giving of their time and talents. We are always looking for more volunteers to join the Make-A-Wish team.
